Extenuating circumstances

It is essential to recognise that illness and difficult or distressing events do occur and that it is a normal part of life to manage these. Students also have a responsibility to manage their own workload throughout the year.

It is recognised that there may be circumstances which prevent students from completing assessments and a student may apply for extenuating circumstances to be taken into consideration where they feel their performance in assessments has been affected by circumstances beyond their control – that is, circumstances which were unforeseen and unpreventable.

Extenuating Circumstances is used to describe those things which cause exceptional interference with academic performance, over and above normal difficulties.
