Application Steps:

• Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for 2023/24 at https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa  Please ensure that you make your application for funding before the annual deadline.  This is usually the official end of your academic year but may differ for some programmes.  If you are unsure, please email USLoans@lincoln.ac.uk

  • The University of Lincoln’s School code is G36844.

• Accept Offer of a Place at the University of Lincoln on an Eligible Program.

  • Before we will originate any loans your offer must be on an Eligible Program and unconditional.

• Contact USLoans@lincoln.ac.uk where a Funding Notification Offer will be made to you. You should accept the offer before continuing to apply for your funding.

• Complete Direct Loan Entrance Counselling:

  • Undergraduate Students: https://studentaid.gov/app/counselingInstructions.action?counselingType=entrance

  • Graduate Students: https://studentaid.gov/app/counselingInstructions.action?counselingType=entrance

  • Parents are not required to complete entrance counselling for a Direct ParentPlus Loan.

•  Complete Direct Loan Master Promissory Note(s)

  • You must complete a Direct Loan Master Promissory Note (MPN) for each type of loan you wish to borrow.  For Foreign Schools you must apply for a MPN on an annual basis so for each new academic year.

  • Undergraduate and Graduate students: https://studentaid.gov/app/launchMpn.action.

  • Graduate students: https://studentaid.gov/app/launchMpn.action.

  • Parent Borrowers (parents of dependent undergraduate students): https://studentaid.gov/app/launchMpn.action.

• Email USLoans@lincoln.ac.uk once all elements of your Federal Student Aid have been completed.

Cost of Attendance:

Your cost of attendance is made up as follows:

• Tuition fees

• Course fees – if applicable

• Room (rent)

• Board (basic living costs)

• Miscellaneous (Visa fee, NHS Surcharge, PC/Laptop first year only, books/materials)

• Loan fees (estimated)

• Transportation (US to UK and local commuting)

• Less any scholarships or sponsorship

  The exchange rate for the 2023/24 academic year has been set at 1.35 (GBP to USD).

How to Appeal or Amend your Funding Notification Offer:

• The cost of attendance represents the maximum borrowing based on local costs and average need.

• You can reduce these costs on your Funding Notification Offer acceptance letter.

• If you believe you need additional costs you should email us at USLoans@lincoln.ac.uk and provide evidence/information regarding your request.  Additional costs will be considered on a case-by-case basis and only if they are allowed by the US Department of Education.
