Counselling is a talking and listening process that helps you to focus on and understand the concerns that are troubling you. The Counsellor’s role is to listen carefully to you and offer support and understanding in a non-judgemental, non-critical way. Your Counsellor will respect your values, choices and lifestyle. Counselling can help you to explore your feelings, thinking and attitudes. It may also help you to make choices, decisions, or changes that are right for you.

The aim of counselling is to provide an opportunity “to work towards living in a more satisfying and resourceful way”. Counselling is a process which can help you to deal with different situations and issues, including coping with loss or bereavement, making challenging decisions, developing personal insight or improving relationships with others. It is not telling people what to do, nor is it primarily advice and information although these aspects may feature in some counselling relationships.
